Revolutionizing Healthcare: Introducing a Blockchain-Powered Health App for Complete and Secure Data Management


Take ownership of your health history and control how it is shared with healthcare providers, family, and researchers.




Intro 

This project aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing the healthcare data industry today. Our project aims to tackle the problem of limited access to complete health data history by developing a single app that can aggregate this information for better healthcare. Additionally, we aim to give individuals more control over their health data by allowing them to control access to their entire health history and leverage it for their personal benefit. Lastly, we recognize the importance of privacy in the handling of health data, and will be implementing privacy-protecting computations to match individuals with interested data consumers while still allowing them to generate value (wealth) from their health data.

*This project was approved by UC Berkeley’s IRB in 2018 for public health studies.

  1. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) management: A blockchain-powered health app can provide a secure and decentralized platform for storing, sharing and tracking EMRs, allowing patients and healthcare providers to easily access and update their medical history. (Selected ︎)
  2. Clinical trial management: Using blockchain technology, pharmaceutical companies and research organizations can securely and transparently track and manage the progress of clinical trials, from patient recruitment to data analysis. (Selected ︎)
  3. Supply chain management: A blockchain-powered health app can be used to track and verify the authenticity of drugs and medical supplies, ensuring that patients are receiving safe and effective treatments.
  4. Personalized medicine: By securely storing and sharing genetic and other health data, a blockchain-powered health app can enable healthcare providers to tailor treatment plans to individual patients and improve the overall effectiveness of healthcare. (Selected ︎)
  5. Telemedicine: A blockchain-powered health app can facilitate secure and seamless communication between patients and healthcare providers, enabling remote consultations, follow-up appointments and medication management.

Designing the Brand Identity for Health App

Creating a cohesive brand identity for our blockchain-powered health app presented a unique design challenge. The healthcare industry is often associated with feelings of safety, warmth, love, and care, while the branding of our parent company leans more towards an engineering-oriented and technologically-driven aesthetic.

To reconcile these two seemingly disparate elements, we devoted extensive time and effort to rebranding and ideating the perfect design aesthetic for our app. Through brainstorming sessions and iterative design revisions, we arrived at a final brand identity that seamlessly blends the warmth and compassion of the healthcare industry with the cutting-edge technology of blockchain.

In this presentation, I will take you through the design journey from our initial concepts to the final, polished brand identity. From the early sketches to the final logo, you will see the evolution of the brand and the design choices that helped us create a cohesive and impactful brand.



Bringing our blockchain-powered health app to fruition was a process that required us to be nimble, responsive, and user-centered. We completed and published the app after three redesigns and product iterations within a half-year. Throughout this process, we continuously gathered user feedback and created user personas as a directional design reference. This approach allowed us to make informed design decisions, resulting in a polished, user-friendly, and effective product.

We understand that creating a successful product is not a one-time event, but a continuous process that requires constant monitoring, testing, and improvement. By being responsive to our users' needs and feedback, we were able to create an app that exceeded expectations and will continue to evolve and improve over time.



User Testing & Interviews

As this is the most important project I have designed for changing the healthcare industry, I immediately began the user testing process after finishing the first version of the app. I focused on usability testing, using a platform called usertesting.com. This platform allows enterprises to easily connect with users in live sessions.



Creating a successful product requires an ongoing process of gathering insights and feedback, analyzing the data, and making informed design decisions. After conducting user testing, our product team will meet to discuss and prioritize the issues that have been identified, taking into account their type, frequency, and impact on the user experience.  Here is the way me & team structure the issues:

Empowering Users: An Effective User Onboarding Experience

Creating an intuitive and effective user onboarding experience is essential for the success of our blockchain-powered health app. Our design aims to clearly and effectively communicate the unique concept of storing private health records in a secure, blockchain-based vault.

Through a combination of visual aids, clear explanations, and interactive elements, we guide users through the process of setting up their account, understanding the features and benefits of the app, and securely storing their personal health data. By providing a seamless and user-friendly onboarding experience, we empower our users to take control of their health data and benefit from the security and convenience of our blockchain-based platform.




Designing for Convenience and Clarity: A User-Friendly Home and Settings Interface

Making a convenient and intuitive home and settings interface is crucial for the success of our health app. We have chosen to use a card layout as the main interface, with each card representing a single record. This design choice not only feels safe and concrete, but also makes it easy for users to find and access the information they need.

We have also placed a strong emphasis on creating a joyful and visually pleasing experience, with a clean and modern design that is easy on the eyes. By making the app easy to navigate and use, we aim to empower our users to take control of their health data and benefit from the security and convenience of our blockchain-based platform.


Designing for Comprehensive Health Data Management: A User-Friendly Interface for Medical Records and Fitness Data

Effective health data management is at the heart of our health app. Our design allows users to view all of their imported medical records, including images such as x-rays, in one convenient location. We have also incorporated a feature that enables users to sync all of their fitness data from their smart devices, providing a comprehensive overview of their health and wellness.

The interface is designed to be user-friendly, with a clean and intuitive layout that makes it easy for users to find and access the information they need. By providing a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution for health data management, we empower our users to make informed decisions about their health and wellness."
